We are currently staying in Noosa - fashionable, stylish and surfy, we had been told Noosa is one of the poshest Australian towns on the East Coast and, although we have decided Australians don’t really do posh!, it is definitely more buzzy and cosmopolitan than any of our other stops. Infact, Katie and I have made ourselves quite at home here!
Noosa is really quite stunning with various inlets running through the town, leafy streets and gorgeous beaches which are ideal for surfing (gentle waves and no stingers or sharks).
Through a recommendation in the Lonely Planet, we booked our accommodation before arriving here … but we had no idea that what we would be getting is a small luxury apartment with swimming pool and outdoor jacuzzi - and we have the place to ourself as it is off season! This is not backpacker style but it is cheaper than what we have paid previously for some grotty hostels - what a fantastic bargain!!
Last night we had our first night in - relaxing in the jacuzzi, then watching a Jim Carey movie on the sofa with a healthy meal with all organic ingredients we had bought from a local store. Yummy!
In true Aussie style, this morning (and this may be hard for some of you to believe) Katie and I went surfing!!! Well, we had our first lesson and we had a lot of fun trying! The company was run by an ex professional (Merrick?) and they specialised in starting beginners off with a guarantee they will get you standing at least once. The guys were really good and I’m thrilled to say I did manage to stand three times and managed to ride the board into shore once - yippee!
To follow-up an active morning, this afternoon we went for a walk through a National Park following two trails one of which was coastal. It was fabulous scenery and there were lots of turkeys (for some reason) but we were a little disappointed not to see any koalas!!! We are on a mission now for Katie to see at least one before we leave Australia - even if it means going to a koala sanctuary tomorrow!
As Noosa is renowned in Oz for its restaurants, tonight we are looking forward to sampling a meal out… will let you know how we get on!…
