On Monday morning we started our sailing course in Sydney Harbour - as we will be sailing with Stuart and Jane (Sarah’s Mum) in the Caribbean, we thought we should learn some basics so that we are well prepared! Sydney Harbour seemed to be an awesome place to learn to sail so we booked onto a 2 day intro course with a lovely English sailing teacher - Annie and her beautiful dog - Fitz. Her boat “Topcat” was a 32 foot Catalina yacht and was immaculate.
It was amazing to sail right into Sydney Harbour - not quite under the Harbour Bridge but we got quite close and saw some amazing views of the city. We learnt an awful lot about the boat and its handling and some general sailing terms - lets just hope we can remember them when we get to the Caribbean!
On Monday night, we spent some time in Manly, which has a beautiful beach - much nicer than Bondi in my opinion- and then went to meet Stuart’s (my bro) friends Rich and Lindsay for a drink in Darling Harbour. It was great to see them, they have done a similar trip along the East Coast to us and it was nice to compare notes! They are now living and working in Sydney for a few months, although were looking pretty settled!
Whilst wondering around Sydney, we found this DTZ Australia sign! I am thinking about everyone back in Birmingham working - honest!!!! Bizarrely, Annie who taught us the sailing used to work for DTZ in London - small world hey!
Tuesday night was our last night staying with V&G so we went out to a lovely Italian restaurant to thank them for putting up with us for a whole 7 nights! We were really grateful to be able to stay with them and it gave us a real insight of Sydney life outside of the touristy areas!
Wednesday morning brought an early flight from Sydney to Christchurch in New Zealand and then an incredibly quick transfer (we nearly missed it due to NZ’s very tight customs checks) onto Queenstown! We have picked up our campervan and spent our first night in Queenstown - a really very stunning town on the shores on Lake Wakitipu in New Zealand’s South Island.

Are you at the same site we stayed at, where you decided to drive over a great lump of rock? I was thinking about you travelling around NZ with great jealousy. Take some pics of the ‘bus. Has it got sweetcorn floating around in it this time round?
We have had some gorgeous days here recently but not quite the same as where you are. Hope it’s better than Sydney’s rain. Maybe you will have a better view of the waterfalls going the other way - it was raining quite hard when we came down that road last year.
Thanks for keeping the blog going. Its nice to know what you are up to. Oh, and keep your eyes open for some nice paua pieces - only not of the beach or you will get stuck in customs again.
Have fun.
